Preview: More routine red cards as Roma aim to humble their rivals?
It is all well with the Giallorossi so far. They have picked up maximum points since the start of the league in August. Their three-out-of-three run started in Livorno thanks to goals from De Rossi and Florenzi.
On Matchday 2, Roma trampled over newcomers Hellas Verona, showing Matchday 1 victims Milan how it must be done to tackle the tricky Gialloblu. 3-0 was the score line as Miralem Pjanic and Adem Ljajic became the third and fourth different goalscorers respectively for Roma in the Serie A. The first strike in this victory was an own-goal by Cacciatore.
Against Parma last Monday, today’s hosts went behind following Biabiany’s 39th minute opener. However, inspired by icon Francesco Totti, Roma staged a second-half come back and subsequently snatched full points.
Lazio’s story in the 2013/14 Italian Serie A is different and marked with inconsistency already. Kicking off the season with a 2-1 win over Udinese was a positive sign. Beating Chievo 3-0 last weekend was also a great achievement. Both wins came at home, and in between, they lost heavily to Juventus (4-1) in Turin.
In recent times, Roma-Lazio clashes have been marred by ugly scenes. In each of both teams last five meetings in the Serie A, there has been a minimum of one red card – totalling as many as eight red cards. Playing as the hosts, Roma have not beaten Lazio since March 2011.
With revenge and bragging rights on the minds of the Giallorossi, spectators of this epic Serie A clash can expect fireworks at the Stadio Olimpico today.
