The cash laden clubs will face each other for the first time in two years in a match which has been termed “El Cashio”. The last two encounters between the two sides ended in a draw, however this time it is an altogether different story.

PSG were expected to take the league by storm for years to come after being acquired by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who guaranteed his full financial support to the club. Lucrative spending by the Parisien side enabled them to buy one of the brightest players in the world of football which helped PSG to win its first league title in 19 years.

However recently promoted side AS Monaco have returned to the top tier of French football with a mission. After being taken over by Russian Billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, the club has gone on a spending spree similar to their counterparts.

The extravagant spending has seemed to pay off with Monaco currently top of the ligue 1 table, having won four out of the five matches they have played so far. Monaco’s French striker Emmanuel Rivière tops the scoring charts with five goals to his name, followed by Monaco’s 60 million euro summer signing Radamel Falcao who has scored four goals so far.

The Monegasque club however have some injury concerns with the attacking duo of Nacer Barazite and Valere Germain doubt for the big match against PSG. Whereas former Malaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan has been ruled out of the tie with an adductor muscle problem, Mounir Obbadi and Geoffrey Kondogbia are thus expected to feature in the middle of the park for the red and whites.

PSG on the other hand not short of cash themselves have made marquee signings of their own. Les Parisiens added to their ranks one of the most sought after strikers in the world in the shape of Edison Cavani who arrived at the club for a massive 52.7 million pounds, before adding Brazilian star Marquinhos to what is a star studded line-up.

Laurent Blanc will however not be able to field creative midfielder Javier Pastore or defender Alex for the clash against Monaco who are both out of the tie with injuries.

Blanc who played under his opposite number Claudio Ranieri in Napoli almost 20 years ago is relishing the chance of going against a person he regards his mentor.

"I was inspired by him (Ranieri) because even at that the time, he wanted to make the game (attacking)," he said.

"He already had the offensive spirit. He showed that he wanted his team produce. and it influenced me because it gave me a vision of the game that I liked."

Monaco will have the advantage of being the fresher side having played their last match a week back, as opposed to PSG who owing to their commitment to European competitions were involved in a midweek Champions League encounter against Olympiakos, a match they convincingly won 4-1.
