The supposed figure of the City legend has generated divided opinions and the Real Madrid star has weighed in on the debate.

Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has added to the 'troll-fest' surrounding Man City's unveiling of Sergio Aguero's statue outside the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens, in honoring their club legend, uncovered the figure on Friday but were met with an unexpected backlash with fans suggesting that it resembled the Kroos more than the Argentine.

It has been 10 years since Sergio Aguero scored the historic last-minute goal against Queens Park Rangers to fire Manchester City to their first-ever Premier League title. On Friday, City shared a video of the statue on Twitter, showcasing their former striker's iconic posture after scoring the momentous goal in the 3-2 win over QPR.

On Friday, Aguero was there at the Etihad and was pictured alongside the steel statue. However, the image generated a lot of buzz on social media with many fans mocking the statue as it appeared to resemble Toni Kroos more than City's former striker.

Later in the day, the Real Madrid superstar added to the frenzy with a witty remark on Twitter:

Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for City between 2011 and 2021, establishing himself as one of the finest strikers in the Premier League era. The former Argentine striker completed a move to Barcelona in May 2021, and in December 2021, announced his retirement from football on the advice of doctors after a spell with a heart-related issue.

Speaking about his statue, Aguero said: "'Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving. "In those 10 years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world. "I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special."
