The Senegalese attacker scored the winning goal to keep his side in contention for the Premier League title.

Sadio Mane scored a brilliant winner against Aston Villa on Tuesday night as Liverpool rallied on from behind to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City. The Reds secured an important 2-1 win after conceding the game's opener against Steven Gerrard's side.

Jurgen Klopp's men suffered a massive setback in their Premier League title when they dropped two points in their 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend. With City leading them by three points, securing a win over Villa was enough to keep the Champions League finalists in contention for the premiership title. However, they had to deal with an unexpected turn of events when Douglas Costa drew first blood for the visitors in front of the Anfield faithful after just three minutes.

Three minutes later, Joel Matip restored parity after a scramble in the box. A hamstring injury to Fabinho in the 29th minute complicated the task for the Reds but the resilience of the side was eventually rewarded. Inside the 68th minute, Sadio Mane scored a header to put Liverpool ahead for the first time in the night's game. With the win, the Merseysiders are now second only on goal difference as Man City is yet to visit Wolves in their penultimate game of the season.

The night's scoreline also meant that Liverpool now have three players on 15 goals or more in this Premier League season, with Sadio Mane joining Mo Salah and Diogo Jota. The feat is one that has only even been achieved once in the Premier League's history. Man City's Aguero, Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko were the first trio to land the feat in the 2013-2014 season.
