After managing to acquire the services of the Spain international, Manchester City would be hoping that the same fate does not await Negredo like most of the big name strikers that came to the club in recent years.
After long and arduous discussions, Manchester City were finally able to seal a deal for Spanish international, Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla. The striker was one of the most wanted players in Europe this summer and Manuel Pellegrini can now afford himself a smug smile for being able to get his man.

Indeed, it would be quite interesting to see the player don the City colours and try and replicate the same form that made him one of the best strikers in Spain last season.

However, optimism should be at a certain level if City’s past dealings for strikers in the transfer window in past are taken into account. In the last six years, the Citizens have spent around 250m pounds on strikers and most of them, apart from a bare few exceptions, have failed to deliver the goods.

Now with Alvaro Negredo at the club, one has to think if the 27-year-old might await the same fate or not. At present, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero have two recognised strikers and it was important for Pellegrini to have another option.

Since sealing a move to Eastlands from VfL Wolfsburg, Dzeko has not been able to produce the same displays that made him one of the most coveted strikers in Germany and the face of Bosnian football.

Negredo arrives in England off the back of his most prolific campaign. Last season, the striker netted an impressive 25 goals for Sevilla in the league and in total, scored 31 goals. Nicknamed ‘La fiera de Vallecas’ or the Beast of Vallecas, Negredo is renowned for his physical impact and ability to shrug off a defender and then creating a goalscoring opportunity.

Unlike other strikers coming in from Spain, Negredo should be able to adapt to the physical nature of the English Premier League. The player has the ability to hold up the ball and bring his fellow midfielders into the play. That is exactly how Negredo and Jesus Navas (who signed for City earlier), raked up assists and goals in their last four seasons at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

This new partnership could be exactly what rekindles City next season. Many English fans would be thinking that Negredo is over reliant on his physical attributes. However, that is not the case at all. The Spaniard is very quick footed and is good at making his own chances.
At City, Dzeko is a target man while Aguero is a finisher. Negredo on the other hand, is a mix of both and has an uncanny ability to lead the attack on his own which bodes well for the manager if he decides to change formation somewhere during the season.

In short, Negredo has all the ingredients to becoming a successful signing for the English giants. The Spaniard has all the weapons in his arsenal to become a top player for his team but, caution should be thrown to the winds.

In past, the likes of Adebayor, Balotelli and countless other strikers have failed to deliver the goods and the same could possibly happen to Negredo if he doesn’t adjust to his new surroundings quickly.
