CONCACAF Gold Cup viewers witnessed eight goals on Saturday as Panama trounced Cuba 6-1 before Mexico ousted Trinidad and Tobago with the narrowest of margins. This Sunday, the Last 8 action continues with hosts USA up against El Salvador.
The United States are widely viewed as favourites to claim the cup but if they are to do so, they must avoid an upset tonight. Chris Wondolowski is in a fierce competition with Panama’s Gabriel Torres. They have each notched five goals – which totals to almost 10 per cent of all the goals scored during the Gold Cup 2013 so far.
Since 1985 when it finished in fourth place, La Selecta has not managed to go past the quarter-finals of the tournament. This is a good omen for the USMNT who crashed out in the Last 8 only once; that was in 2000.
