FC Bayern München will try to win their first trophy of the season as they head to the Telekom Cup for the fifth time. This is a trophy which the Bavarians have never conquered.

Preview: Will Hamburg be able to escape a thrashing?

Hamburger SV will be the opponent waiting for Bayern in the first round of the Telekom Cup. Bayern played them in the third place play-off last season when the competition was called LIGA Total! Cup and lost 1-0. Pep Guardiola has taken almost a full squad with him leaving only injured duo Mario Götze and Holger Badstuber along with youngster Emre Can out.

Bayern has won each and every preseason friendly so far as expected. They have no intention to take this competition lightly. Toni Kroos feels that as Bayern is making the trip to Mönchengladbach, they should be putting in the maximum effort required to win the competition. HSV, after an average season, mixed with disastrous and excellent results, has a few things to figure out. They should have been in Europe this season considering their finances and their standing coming into the final third of the previous season but failed rather miserably.

The last meeting between the two ended disastrously for HSV as Bayern ran out 9-2 winners. Claudio Pizarro scored four marvelous goals in what was an extraordinary evening for him. HSV’s goals came late on when Bayern started going down the gears.
