Hope Solo will be looking to make a clean sheet as Seattle Reign FC host Washington Spirit in the first ever televised NWSL match.Preview: Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe offer Reign FC a boost

Seattle Reign FC could hit 15 points and thus move eight points of rock-bottomed Washington Spirit. Whatever happens on Sunday, these two teams will still remain seventh and eighth on the table, respectively.

Following Thursday night’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Western New York Flash, Reign FC will be confident of triumphing at the Starfire Stadium. Before that, the team lost its previous nine matches.

Since the past few weeks, though, Seattle Reign FC have tried to improve with the presence of goalkeeper Hope Solo and influential USWNT midfielder Megan Rapinoe.

Solo, back from her wrist surgery recovery, has made 39 saves from a total of 45 shots. She joined the squad six matchdays ago. Olympique Lyonnais’ Rapinoe, however, only made here NWSL debut on June 23 due to the completion of the European season.

These two stars will be key in the quest to continue Washington Spirit’s seven-game winless run. Meanwhile, the latter have their hopes on Diana Matheson’s shoulders. With five strikes and a couple of assists in her name, the Canadian will be out to outshine Seattle Reign FC’s American duo composed of Solo and Rapinoe.

“The club culture that exists for men's soccer doesn't really extend to a similar level in our sport,” is a true fact that Chicago Red Stars’ goalie, Erin McLeod, had to admit in an interview with the press this week. Such is the reality that pushed Canada, Mexico and the U.S. to create the National Women’s Soccer League.

This eight-team tournament based in the United States has 16 Canadian players. One of them is Seattle Reign FC’s Kaylyn Kyle who has experience due to her spell in Sweden and across Europe. There is a feeling that Sunday’s televised NWSL fixture will carry some good love and patriotism after Kyle explained:

“There is good money to be made overseas, but I'm willing to take a pay cut to play in one of the better leagues and stay in North America.”
