Real Zaragoza vs Real Madrid – La Liga Match Preview

April 21, 2010 By Angela Asante
Real Madrid accomplished the difficult mission of defeating Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu last weekend to therefore close the gap to only one point against Barcelona at the top of La Liga table. This Saturday, Los Blancos will be playing away to Real Zaragoza in what appears to be a tricky fixture. It’s Match-day 34 in the Spanish Primera Division and Los Blancos are looking forward to reach the 86 points mark at the end of it.

They’ve all vowed the same thing after losing to Barcelona in El Clasico on April 10th. Real Madrid’s club members and players will fight until the end to win their only trophy of the season which is La Liga title. The first leg of this weekend’s fixture against Zaragoza ended in a delight for the Spanish giants. Goals from Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo, Van der Vaart, and Karim Benzema saw Real Madrid hit their opponents for six. That win at the Santiago Bernabeu was quite a nice way for the Spanish giants to head into the winter break after having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Barca at the Camp Nou three Match-days before.

The public will expect Real Madrid to at least complete the double over Real Zaragoza, if not tease them with a flurry of goals again. However, Los Blancos will not allow themselves to be flattered by last time 6-0 result. Their focus is solely on beating their remaining five opponents no matter their level of illustriousness. Stressing the importance of clinching the maximum 15 points that are at stake, Brazilian international Marcelo declared:

"We are working and we have to be vigilant in the final part of the season. We won’t relax and we will keep working hard to win the league. We need to win all our games.”

Talking about this weekend’s clash against Real Zaragoza, the defender stated:

“We will face Zaragoza which is another difficult encounter because at this point, no mach is easy.”

Real Zaragoza might trouble Madrid, but can they?Real Zaragoza celebrate as they stun Valencia 3-0.

Obviously, if Barcelona defeat rock bottomed Xerez in Saturday’s afternoon kick off, and if Real Zaragoza take at least a point away this weekend, then Real Madrid’s title hopes will suffer a setback once again. The question is, can Real Zaragoza afford such a prospect?

Yes, they stunned Valencia 3-0 late in March and have since not lost on home soil. They’ve scored six goals and conceded only one in their last three matches at the Estadio La Romareda. Besides, they’ve lost only once in their last five fixtures. Contrastingly, Zaragoza had a five matches winless streak before heavily going down 6-0 to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. These statistics and comparison perhaps make Zaragoza look like underdogs ready to bite the giants.

Only Saturday will reveal which team will get the better of the other and therefore win at the Estadio La Romareda. For Real Zaragoza, beating the Spanish giants will offer an enormous boost as they aim to remain in the safe zone until the end of the season. Real Zaragoza are just hanging on being only two points and two places above 18th ranked Tenerife. The anguish fate of being relegated is around the corner but the Blanquillos will prefer to distance themselves from it sooner rather than later.
