The Red Devils came into the game on the back of 3-2 win over Norwich City but failed to turn up to the party at Anfield.

Football fans on Twitter have heavily slammed Manchester United's performance in the first half of Tuesday's Premier League clash with Liverpool. The Red Devils failed to make any significant contribution in the first 45 minutes of the clash, with their top-four aspirations hanging in a balance.

The period ahead of the build-up to United's clash with Liverpool had been laced with a couple of misfortunes with talisman Bruno Fernandes suffering an accident and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo losing his newborn son. With the latter having been declared unavailable for the trip to Anfield, the Red Devils' bad omen continued as Paul Pogba was also forced off with injury just 10 minutes into the proceeding.

A rather fringe Man United side set out to battle the title contenders but were put on the backfoot inside the first five minutes. Having set-up a primary formation which featured five defenders, Ralf Rangnick's side was breached by Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz who combined for the game's first goal. In the 22nd minute, Sadio Mane found Salah for Liverpool's second with a brilliant through ball following a well-worked passing move in the visitors' half.

Liverpool enjoyed a 76 percent possession in the first half with their total number of shots being nine and finding the target on three occasions. The Reds also created three big chances, two of which resulted in goals. On the contrary Manchester United finished the half with a 24 per cent possession statistic and no shot in the first half, failing to create a single chance to effect.
