The underdogs are through!

Who would have thought?! The fairytale continues for Villarreal with the Yellow Submarine successfully eliminating title favorites Bayern Munich in epic fashion. Unai Emery's men have defied all odds to book a spot in the semi-final - a second ever in the club's history - after a securing a 1-1 draw at Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.

Despite entering the night's Champions League encounter with a one goal advantage from their quarter-final first leg win at the Ceramica last week, not many gave Villarreal a chance to potentially deliver an upset. A tactical and pragmatic approach to the clash resulted in the first half ending in a 0-0 draw, although a number of half chances fell the way of the hosts.

In the second half, the Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock for the Bavarians as fans of his side hoped that an inspirational turnaround was right at the corner. However, they were denied the joy of securing a second semi-final appearance in three years when substitute Samuel Chukuweze finished off a brilliant breakaway move to hand the visitors the all important equalizer in the 88th minute. Watch:

Villarreal's 2-1 aggregate win extended Bayern Munich's unwanted record against Spanish opponents. For the fifth time in the Bavarian's history, they have failed to qualify the next stage of a Champions League campaign after a first-leg defeat at the hand of an opponent from La Liga. They have now missed the semi-finals of the European competition for the second year in a row - as many times as in the previous 9 seasons combined.
