Bale's agent aims digs at Spanish media and fans

Bale's agent shares unflattering views against Real Madrid fans and Spanish media

April 5, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
Player agent Jonathan Barnett did not hold back when being asked about his client's chances of playing against Chelsea, but the interview took a nasty turn afterwards.

Everything began with an inquiry about Gareth Bale's availability for Wednesday's game against Chelsea, but the interview with player agent Jonathan Barnett escalated to an unexpected rant that involved the Real Madrid fans, Spanish journalists, and even coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking in an interview with Deportes Cuatro, Barnett did not hold back when discussing his client's immediate future, and he started out by ruling out any option he had of playing against Chelsea. While doing so, he aimed a dig at coach Carlo Ancelotti for his decision to keep the player on the sidelines.

"He always stays in the dugout, so you would have to ask coach Ancelotti why he is not playing. It's not a way to criticize him, he just made up his mind so Bale won't play, but it will always be the coach's choice, no the player's. With that in mind, there is no way for him to play tomorrow," Barnett said.

Then, the agent turned his attention against Spanish media outlets who have been overly critic of his client's work while at the Bernabeu.

"The Spanish press has always been ungrateful against him because they have nothing better to do. They have never spoken to him, they don't know him. A couple of weeks ago I wanted to go to trial for their poor work regarding Bale's availability for Real Madrid, but he urged me to think things over and told me not to go through with it," Barnett added.

Before the interview came to an end, the player agent decided to aim one more dig, this time against Real Madrid fans. According to Barnett, the lack of support shown by Los Merengues' supporters towards his client will make them rue the day he leaves the club.

"If Real Madrid fans had shown him love, everything would have been different. In a few years, fans will look back at this time and will remember what a great player they had at Real Madrid and the sort of things he did for this club. They will regret his departure. I only hope that they can give him a proper farewell when the season comes to an end," Barnett concluded.

Gareth Bale will see the end of his contract with Los Blancos when the 2021-22 season comes to a conclusion. Although some sources believe Bale will continue to play professional football, others hint that the Welshman will retire from the sport if he fails to qualify with Wales to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be determined next summer in a playoff match against either Scotland or Ukraine.
