Neymar blasted by Les Bleus' legend

Les Bleus legend aims fresh dig at Neymar as he defends Messi from fan criticism

March 21, 2022 By Oscar Rojas
The Brazilian ace was one of the worst rated players after PSG's three-nil defeat to Monaco, and an influential striker-turned-pundit was sure to give 'Ney' a lot of heat.

PSG's recent performances have been quite disappointing, and while some have turned their criticism against Lionel Messi, a former France football team member and World Cup winner has stepped up to defend the Argentine ace while also airing a massive dig at Neymar.

Speaking after the game between Monaco and PSG, the legendary Thierry Henry criticized fans for aiming their complaints at Lionel Messi rather than being more judgemental against Neymar, who has failed to live up to the expectations created by his signing with Les Parisiens five years ago.

"Last week, PSG fans booed Lionel Messi. How can you criticize the best player of all time? The player who has set up the most goals in Ligue 1 this season? Today, without Messi on the pitch, the team created nothing," Henry said during one of his comments on Amazon Prime.

Then, the former striker aimed a dig at Neymar without mentioning him by stating how he has failed to produce for PSG during complicated moments such as the one the club coached by Mauricio Pochettino is living right now. In fact, he cannot understand why Neymar is still a member of the starting lineup if he has not been as decisive as fans would want.

"I played for Barcelona, and if you don't live up to the expectations, you are left out. The same goes for Bayern players: if you can't do your job, you're out. At Real Madrid, you're out. Is that the case here?" Henry added.

The recent hostility between fans against some of the team's top earners such as Neymar or Messi seems to have triggered a domino effect, which could see the Brazilian ace or Sergio Ramos leave the club by the end of the season. As for Messi, it seems that the Argentine will remain with the club for one more year, since Kylian Mbappé's potential exit could force PSG execs to build their new squad around Messi. As for Neymar, we may be months away from watching him leave the club where he became the most expensive footballer of all time...and it seems that it would be the right thing to do according to Thierry Henry's analysis.
