The Barcelona duo found themselves in the record books after inspiring their side to a remarkable win over their bitter ria

Barcelona pair Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele got the history books revised after their impressive performance inspired their side to a massive win in Sunday's El Clásico. The pair had a hand in the goals scored as the Catalans defeated their bitter rivals by four goals to nil inside the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Real Madrid taking a commanding lead in the title race, there was still bragging rights to play for as the two Spanish heavyweights locked horns at the Bernabeu. Both sides had been in flying form ahead of the fixture and a keenly contested affair was expected. The game was not short of entertainment, although while the best chances fell to the host early on, it was Barca who utilized their opportunities properly.

The deadlock was broken in the 29th minute after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got on the end of Ousmane Dembele's cross. By doing so, the former Arsenal striker became the making him the first player to score in five successive games against Real Madrid in the 21st century (LaLiga and Champions League), taking his tally against the capital club to six.

Nine minutes later Ronald Araujo headed home Dembele cross to give Barcelona a two-goal cushion. With his second assist of the game, Dembele became the first player Xavi in May 2009 to provide two assists in a first half of El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu. The two remain the only set of players to achieve the feat in the 21st century.

Less than 120 seconds after play resumed for the second half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang assisted Ferran Torres to smash home Barcelona's third of the night. The former will then score the visitors' fourth goal which was initially deemed offside but was claimed as a legitimate goal after the intervention of the video assistant referee.

With the his two goals and assist, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the first player to be directly involved in three goals in his first appearance in El Clásico in all competitions in the 21st century. The game's result also meant that Xavi Hernandez is the third Barcelona manager to win his first El Clásico match by four or more goals in the history of La Liga. he joins Ferdinand Daučík in 1951 (won 7-2) and Helenio Herrera in 1959 (won 4-0 at Camp Nou) on the illustrious list.
