The last eight will see Chelsea, Man City, and Liverpool take to the field over the weekend in the battle to make it to the semis.

The FA Cup is back! The quarterfinals of the oldest and—arguably—most prestigious domestic cup competition gets underway this weekend, with Chelsea's trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday kicking off the last eight.

A total of four games will take place on Saturday through Sunday, with the remaining three set to be held the day after the Blues' showdown. Defending champions Leicester are no longer in the tournament, meaning a new winner will be crowned this season, with the Premier League's top three teams remaining in the tournament.

Who will make it to the semifinals? Will one of the three top English sides suffer a fate similar to that of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham? Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming fixtures in the FA Cup.

Preview of the four FA Cup quarterfinal showdowns

Middlesbrough vs Chelsea

This FA Cup season has been all about the giant slayers, with two Championship clubs overcoming tough Premier League oppositions to make it to the quarterfinals. Middlesbrough are one of those two sides, with Chris Wilder's men now aiming to take down UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea in the last eight. Many thought the 4th round was the end of the road for the Boro after they drew Manchester United, but the second-tier English club beat the Red Devils on penalties at Old Trafford. Things did not get easier in the 5th round, with the North Yorkshire side getting Tottenham, but once again they pulled off a remarkable victory, beating Spurs 1-0. Can they eliminate London's toughest team?

The Blues enter this clash having booked their ticket to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, where they will face Real Madrid, having beaten Lille 2-1 (4-1 on aggregate) during the midweek. While the crisis regarding their sanctioned owner Roman Abramovich continues, Tuchel has managed to maintain the team's winning run, having triumphed in all but one of their last 12 matches. There was the fiasco of Chelsea requesting this game to be held behind closed doors due to their inability to sell tickets to their fans, but that is now behind us. All that is left is an exciting match-up.

Crystal Palace vs Everton

Two clubs enduring contrasting Premier League seasons will battle it out for a spot in the FA Cup semifinals in this tie. Crystal Palace, who waved farewell to veteran manager Roy Hodgson last season, recruited Patrick Vieira and several young and talented players, and have not looked back. Guehi and Gallagher in particular have shined, with the English duo helping the club climb to 11th in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Everton are in the midst of a dreadful relegation battle, with the Merseyside outfit sitting in 17th, only three points ahead of Watford, who are in the danger zone. Frank Lampard's men have been abysmal at times, but the Toffees enter this clash on the back of a crucial 1-0 victory over Newcastle. A spot in the FA Cup last four will be priceless for both clubs. Tune in to find out who will seize that ticket.

Southampton vs Manchester City

This will undoubtedly be a tricky clash. The Saints and the Cityzens have already faced off twice this season in the Premier League, but Manchester City were unable to break down their opponents on both occasions, drawing 0-0 at home at 1-1 at the St. Mary's Stadium. Southampton have proven to be a tough side this term, picking up two points against Manchester United and four against Tottenham this term. However, form is not on their side, having lost their last three games in a row.

As for Manchester City, the pressure has been piling up on the reigning English champions. Liverpool have caught up in the top-flight race, meaning that a slip-up here could severely dent their confidence. Guardiola's men are through to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, where they will face Atletico, meaning it is imperative that they progress in the FA Cup if they wish to keep their hopes of securing the treble alive.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

Nottingham Forest are this season's other giants slayer, having eliminated the last two FA Cup champions en route to the quarterfinals. The eighth-placed Championship side first pulled off a remarkable 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the 3rd round before beating reigning champions Leicester 4-1 in the fourth round. Steve Cooper's men suffered a tougher test in the sixth round where they beat Huddersfield 2-1 and will now be aiming to bring down Liverpool, one of Europe's biggest and most competitive clubs.

Unfortunately, Klopp's men are high on confidence. Last month, the Reds beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final to lift England's other domestic trophy while also beating in-form Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday to move within a point of Manchester City. In fact, to put this into perspective, Liverpool have not lost a domestic game since late December when they went 1-0 down against Leicester. Don't miss this stellar clash.
