New York City FC and CF Montreal will kick-start the 2022 MLS regular season this Saturday. Eleven other matches will take place on Saturday, including high-profile matchups between Inter Miami and LAFC, Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers and Austin FC. Weekend play will end on Sunday, with Atlanta United taking on Charlotte FC at Mercedez Benz Arena and New York Red Bulls hosting Minnesota United.

MLS Matchday 3 Match of the Week: Inter Miami vs. LAFC

TUDN USA and Univision will broadcast Inter Miami hosting LAFC on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET. Inter Miami will look to bounce back from a 5-1 away loss at Austin last weekend. On the other hand, LAFC is coming off a hard-fought one-all draw against Portland.

Phil Neville’s Inter Miami failed to match Austin FC’s accuracy, losing 5-1 despite having the same number of shots on target – six – and five more shot attempts. Miami also failed offensively in a goalless draw against Chicago Fire in its home-opener. The Herons are in dire need of goals and a positive result against LAFC to maintain themselves in the race for playoffs.

Los Angeles FC is living a promising chapter under new head coach Steve Cherundolo. The team had its fair share of offseason business, letting go of key players Diego Rossi, Eduard Atuesta and Mark-Anthony Kaye and bringing in Kellyn Acosta, Christian Arango and Ryan Hollingshead. Nonetheless, Carlos Vela lifted Los Angeles FC by scoring a hattrick to beat Colorado Rapids on opening day. LAFC drew 1-1 against Western Conference foes Portland Timbers in Matchday 2. Nineteen-year-old center-back Mamadou Fall, who scored four goals in 19 matches in the 2021 MLS season, bagged his first goal of the year dramatically in added time.

MLS games to watch on Matchday 3

New York City FC vs. CF Montreal

NYCFC and CF Montreal, two clubs that currently compete in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals, will be the first two teams to go toe-to-toe in Matchday 3. The Boys in Blue will host the match at Yankee Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. Both sides have shown signs of struggle in league play this season, sitting in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference table. Watch these two sides fight for their first domestic win of the season live on ESPN+ in the USA.

Seattle Sounders vs. LA Galaxy

FOX Network and Spanish-language FOX Deportes will broadcast a game between Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Sounders are coming off a 3-0 Concacaf Champions League home win against Leon. Seattle looks to contain an LA Galaxy side that defeated Charlotte FC and NYCFC.

Portland Timbers vs. Austin FC

Austin FC turned heads early in the 2022 MLS season after consecutive wins. Not only did Austin win their games, but they did so with margins of five and four goals – 5-0 vs. Cincinnati, 5-1 vs. Inter Miami. But if there is one team capable of stopping Austin, it is Portland Timbers. The Timbers have proven to be a difficult side to beat after draws against 2021 Supporters’ Shield winners New England Revolution and LAFC. Soccer fans can watch the game exclusively on ESPN+ this Saturday.

Atlanta United vs. Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC travels to Atlanta in search of their first regular season point after back-to-back losses. Queen City will face an Atlanta United side that won their opening game 3-1 against Sporting KC and fell 3-0 to Colorado Rapids last weekend. Atlanta will look to defend Mercedes-Benz Stadium like in Matchday 1 against SKC. The game will kick off on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET and broadcast live FOX Sports 1.
