The Reds could potentially concede defeat in their quest to hand their talisman a new deal with negotiations failing to progress.

Liverpool could concede defeat in their bid to extend Mohamed Salah's stay at the club, new reports have revealed. The Reds are still struggling to tie down the 29-year-old forward to a new deal with claims suggesting that he and his agent have no intention of accepting the current new contract bid.

Salah's current deal expires at the end of next season and Liverpool are now racing against time to keep hold of their star attacker. The Egyptian has previously stated that he wishes to stay and admitted that his future remains in the club's hands as he is not making any outrageous demands. However, the unexpected could ensue in the coming months with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano saying that the player and his agent Ramy Abbas Issa are not willing to accept the terms proposed by Liverpool.

According to him, Salah could be on the move in the summer of 2023 and would be happy to continue in the Premier League for another club. On Friday Abbas posted seven laughing emojis on his Twitter page, in what many perceive as a response to recent comments made by Jürgen Klopp in a press conference.

Ahead of Liverpool's upcoming Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion, the German coach said that decision is Salah's to make. He said: "Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious and we are. It's Mo's decision. The club did what it can do, that's how it is. "There's nothing to say about it, it's all fine. "From my point of view, it's exactly like it should be in this moment in time and everything is said.

"Nothing happened further, so no signing, no rejection or whatever. So we just have to wait for that, it's completely fine. "There is no rush in that situation."

After struggling to find his feet in the Premier League at Chelsea, Salah relaunched his career at AS Roma and subsequently caught the eyes of Liverpool. The Egyptian joined the Reds in the summer 2017 and has since scored 152 goals in 237 appearances for the club. He has been instrumental in the club's run-in to winning the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup across the last three seasons.
