BVB reveal reason behind Haaland's Munich trip

Dortmund reveal reason for Haaland's trip to Munich after alleged meeting with Barca coach Xavi

March 7, 2022 By Ali M.
This comes after rumors emerged last week, claiming the Norwegian striker met with the Blaugrana tactician during a trip to Munich.

Erling Haaland is never far away from the headlines, but the Norwegian superstar dominated the news once again after allegedly meeting with Barcelona in Munich.

The Blaugrana have a long-established interest in the Dortmund superstar, and for obvious reasons, with the attacker rising to become the hottest young striker in world football. Given that the Catalan giants are in need of a new no.9, this would be a match made in heaven, but the path to securing his services isn't easy given interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City.

According to reports that came out of Spain, Xavi made the trip to Germany not too long ago to sit down with the 21-year-old in order to beat out the competition. Both were in Munich; however, whether they sat down together and discussed a possible Camp Nou move remains uncertain.

But why exactly was Haaland in Munich? A Dortmund executive has now come out and revealed the answer to that question. That man is none other than Sebastian Kehl, the Bundesliga giants' head of first-team football.

According to the Signal Iduna Park official, Erling's trip to Bavaria's capital last week was planned by the club. The former Salzburg sensation is currently sidelined due to a muscle injury, with Kehl admitting that the attacker was sent there for a second opinion regarding his fitness.

"We tried to optimise a few things, it's also not unusual to get a second opinion," the Dortmund executive told Ruhr Nachrichten. "That's why he was in Munich."

However, while this answer sheds light on Haaland's reason for being in Munich, it does not rule out the possibility of him having met with the Barcelona coach. When asked about the rumors, Xavi offered a coy response, with the Spanish tactician refusing to admit or deny the speculations.

While the issue of Erling's future remains a key issue for both clubs, Dortmund and Barcelona are focused on their ongoing campaigns. Marco Rose's men recently drew 1-1 with Augsburg but remain second in the German top-flight table while the Blaugrana enjoyed a 2-1 comeback victory in La Liga over the weekend to maintain their top-four push.
