The Russian team will not be able to opt for a spot in the World Cup later next month after FIFA's initial ban against all teams from that country.

Things keep getting uglier for the Russian National Team due to the political unrest between Ukraine and the aforementioned country, and the consequences of FIFA's ban against the Russians have also stripped them from one of their biggest sponsors.

A press release by German kit manufacturer Adidas revealed today that their relationship with the Russian National Team has been concluded with immediate effect as a sign of support to the people of Ukraine. The kit manufacturer had been providing new threads to the Russian side since 2008. The deal between the Russian Football Union and Adidas was believed to be one of the most lucrative for the national team.

Sales for Russian jerseys in the region represented almost 2.9% of the company's revenue in 2020, which shows how relevant the team was for the kit manufacturer. Now, the company will focus on promoting jerseys created for other national teams, which include Spain, Germany, Mexico, and many more.

This decision by Adidas comes days after European teams such as Schalke 04 and Manchester United decided to cut ties with Russian companies such as Gazprom, which was an example followed by UEFA yesterday.
