Footage from the event shows a fight breaking out in the presence of the player and his entourage.

Manchester City have issued a statement pledging their support to Phil Foden for his involvement in a brawl on Saturday night. The young midfielder and his entourage were captured in a scuffle with unidentified individuals at the backstage of the boxing fight between Kell Brook and Amir Khan, with his mother reportedly nursing an injury after being hit by a fan who abused the Premier League star.

On Sunday, a footage of a brawl at Manchester Arena between some individuals and another group of people - including Foden - emerged on social media. The player, who had earlier featured for Manchester City in their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was seen being escorted to a private room while tension began to rise at where he was initially located.

According to the Telegraph, a group of men hurl abuse - including homophobic slurs - at him after Brooks had won the fight in the sixth round. The incident escalated quickly, with the group confronting Foden's entourage which included his mother Claire and his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke. A scuffle broke out after Foden's mother had reportedly told the group to leave him alone, pushing one of the men in the process before getting struck in the face.

Foden, who was spotted in a blue hoodie and jeans, appeared briefly in an attempt to fight back before another unidentified man belonging to his team picked up a fire extinguisher and began to swing it at their attackers.

In a statement, spokesperson from Manchester City said: "The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused.

"We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil's family members. We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need."

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police have stated that they received no report of the incident on the night but have now launched an investigation into the matter. "GMP are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a disturbance at the AO arena last night," a spokesperson said as per the Telegraph.

"We are conducting some further enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
