The Argentine ace was not able to give PSG the lead after Kylian Mbappé earned a spot kick in a one-on-one against Carvajal.

The highly anticipated clash between PSG and Real Madrid had one more element of controversy with Lionel Messi getting ready to face Los Blancos one more time and for the first occasion since his move to Les Parisiens.

When the stakes were higher, the footballer had a golden chance to give his team the lead against Los Blancos, as the game's ref awarded PSG a penalty kick due to a foul by Dani Carvajal against Kylian Mbappé. Some believed that Mbappé should have taken the penalty, but in the end it was Messi who took the responsibility of trying to score.

Unfortunately, the former Blaugrana ace was unable to put the ball past Thibaut Courtois, as his left-footed shot was saved by the Belgian ace and cleared away from Real Madrid's box swiftly.

With this save, Thibaut Courtois made history for Real Madrid, as he accomplished something no other Los Blancos shot-stopper had done before.
