The Derbi Barceloní was not short of drama as the two great teams from Catalunya shared spoils on Sunday.

Barcelona drew Espanyol in a tense La Liga game as Luuk de Jong struck a stunning late equaliser to ensure that spoils were shared. The Dutch striker's goal came after Gerard Pique and the host's Nico Melamed had seen red in the early minutes of additional time.

The 214th Catalan derby in La Liga Santander had it all, with both sides putting on a real spectacle inside Cornella-El Prat. It did not take long for the deadlock to be broken with Pedri putting the visitors ahead with a brilliant volley after barely 120 seconds. However, Sergi Darder curler drew the game level just five minutes before half-time to set up another a fiercely contested half.

La Masia graduate Gavi thought he had put Barca ahead in the 57th minute but saw his goal being ruled for offside by the Video Assistant Referee. A moment later, Raul de Tomas put Xavi's men on the backfoot by scoring Espanyol's second goal of the night before Gerard Pique and Nico Melamed were subsequently sent off in added time as the visitors pushed for an equalizer.

After replacing Pedri in the 88th minute, De Jong headed in an Adama Traore cross to deny Espanyol their first-ever win over Barcelona in over a decade. Shortly after, Manu Morlanes was also issued a red card on the bench at the end of the game. The player had been replaced in the 70th minute after picking up an injury just eight minutes after coming on.

With the result, Barcelona extended their unbeaten run against Espanyol to 24 games. The Camp Nou outfit have also moved above Atletico Madrid in fourth, with the race for Champions League places heating up.
