Pep Guardiola "has demanded more from Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez, labelling him "a little bit weak" in his work when competing for duels. The 30-year-old Algerian international was on target as Raheem Stering's hattrick inspired the Citiizens to a remarkable 4-0 win over Norwich at Carrow Road.
Mahrez was featured in the starting line up for the away trip but ended up extending a run of seven straight games without scoring against Norwich on Saturday. Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock in the 31st minute with a brilliant curler before completing his hat-rick with goals in the 70th and 90th minutes respectively. Inbetween, Phil Foden added to the Etihad outfit's advantage, scoring the game third.
In giving his post-match remarks, Pep Guardiola lauded Raheem Sterling for his memorable display and contribution. He subsequently extended it to Riyad Mahrez who was a shadow of the player he usually was throughout the game. Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, he said; "He [Mahrez] is clever, he's a goalscorer. But sometimes I want more.
"Sometimes he's a little bit weak in the duels. We've known each other a long time and he knows the intentions we say to him is in a positive way."
Pep Guardiola has now won 550 games in his senior managerial career (including penalty shoot-outs).
