The defender's effectiveness came under scrutiny after failing to handle the play that resulted in Burnley's equaliser.

Manchester United fans have slammed Harry Maguire once more following his performance in Tuesday night's meeting with Burnley. The 28-year-old defender had a game to forget, playing a huge role in his side picking up just a point at Turf Moor and dropping out of the top-four as a result.

It was another tale of two halves with the Red Devils dominating the first 45 minutes to assume the drivers seat. Paul Pogba, who had returned to the starting lineup after a spell out with injury, scored the first goal of the season to hand his side the advantage going into half-time.

Prior to the Frenchman's strike, United had been denied the lead after Raphael Varane had his headed goal disallowed as a result of an infringement in the build-up. The former Real Madrid star had the ball in the net after meeting Bruno Fernandes' kick at the back post, but after visiting the Referee Review Area, referee Mike Dean overturned the goal as Harry Maguire was offside in the build-up.

Just four minutes after play resumed for the second half, the English center-back saw his night go from bad to worse after failing to properly deal with the threat of Jay Rodriguez. Luke Shaw, who failed to move up in line with his defensive teammates, played the Clarets striker onside after he latched onto Wout Weghorst's reverse pass. Rodriguez, on the other hand, had his work cut out for him, striding in front of Harry Maguire and hitting a low shot past an onrushing David de Gea.

Fans have since lashed out at Maguire for his errors which have seemingly been persistent in recent times. Below are a few reactions gathered from Twitter after the equalizer:
