The Frenchman will see out the rest of his contract at Barcelona and leave as a free agent when the season ends.

Ousmane Dembele will not be leaving Barcelona in the winter transfer window, multiple reports from Spain have revealed. The Spanish club expected the Frenchman to move on this month but the failure to find an agreement with any club has resulted in the player remaining at Camp Nou until the end of the season.

After refusing to sign a new deal last year, Barcelona informed Dembele that he will be sold this month. The French winger will be out of contract in the summer, and the La Liga club was hoping to avoid the prospect of losing him on a free transfer.

Led by director of football Mateu Alemany, Los Blaugrana held discussions with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Tottenham on transfer deadline day in a bid to find a solution for the situation. However, they failed in the attempt, as the deal was believed to be too complicated to complete. The turn of events mean that the former Borussia Dortmund winger will see out his current contract while receiving his full wages.

With only six months left on the deal, Dembele is also allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club. Barcelona had previously said that the 24-year-old forward will not play for them anymore should he refuse to renew his contract. It remains to be seen if the club will maintain its stance as they continue to fight for a top four finish in La Liga although they have dropped the winger for their last two games.

The arrival of both Adama Traore and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang could also have a significant impact on the Frenchman's chances.
