Rumors were coming out of no where, with fans searching aimlessly to see if what they were reading was actually true. From the world of Twitter, Facebook and the internet in general, we may all have seen some of the most absurd rumors.
Well, now that the dust has settled and everyone has put their checkbooks away, we can now take a look at five transfers that were impressive in their own way.
Wesley Sneijder
Shocking? Surprising? Or all around unbelievable is a good way to sum up this transfer. Had someone come out with the possibility of Wesley Sneijder moving to Galatasaray at the beginning of the season, almost everyone would have laughed it off.
Well laugh all you want, because right now, Galatasaray fans are enjoying this great addition to their club.
The fact that he chose to sign for a team in the Turkish League, opposed to a team in one of the top European League's is beyond incredible. This is a player who could well have been voted World Player of the Year in 2010.
Galatasaray will now get to prepare themselves for their Champions League clash with Schalke having added a very good and experienced Sneijder, as well as former Chelsea star Didier Drogba.
Not only is this a very impressive signing, but Sneijder could really put his name back on the international map during his time in Turkey.
Mario Balotelli
This time around, Mario Balotelli made the tabloids, but not for a negative reason. The Italian striker had the city of Milan in mass hysteria during the last 24 hours of the transfer window, after they found out that the Rossoneri had agreed a deal for the former City player.
Known for his on and off the field antics, Balotelli now gets the chance to begin a new chapter in his very young, yet interesting career.
It is hard to believe that a player who has all the ingredients needed to be a top striker, just can not seem to sort his head out.
Many people argue the fact that he is young, but if you really think about it, he has had the opportunity to work with some of the most well known and respected players and managers. Their is absolutely no excuses for Balotelli to not only have his career on the right track, but he should be considered one of the world's best strikers.
He can thank himself for not being mentioned alongside some of the world's best, but Milan fans now hope that with his return to the San Siro he can get things straight.
His strength and ability to score goals is a given, but getting him in the mood to show off those skills is a completely different ball game. If he can focus on his career and leave his on and off the field antics out of the way, Balotelli could have himself a very impressive first few months at Milan.
Bringing him in to replace Pato could prove to be a fantastic signing, while also helping Balotelli relaunch his career, or, it could turn into a complete disaster if he continues to just not care.
David Beckham
The former LA Galaxy midfielder had been training with Arsenal for a few days now and some reporters were already starting to toy with the idea of him possibly signing for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger made it clear that Beckham was just training with his side to regain fitness and the French manager clearly was not lying.
Beckham made his way to the French capital on Thursday to negotiate what would turn out to be his next destination as a football player. Paris Saint Germain, one of the world's new powerhouse clubs with an astonishing financial backing.
Was this transfer an actual football decision or did the Parisian side bring in Beckham more as a publicity stunt as they try to build a reputation?
Well, it goes without saying that Beckham is going to sell jerseys and he will attract a lot of media attention. Heck, anything with his name, number or even picture on it will sell, that is more than obvious.
So while PSG now gain an experienced player who can contribute on the field, they also have a player who will be a leader in the locker room and on the newspaper stands.
He is not going to be a standout player given the fact that he is not 21 years-old anymore, but just his presence will be a big boost to a side that is trying to make a name for themselves in European Football.
May we also not forget the fact that Beckham has chosen to donate his full salary to a children's charity during his time in Paris. A remarkable gesture from a player who has enjoyed great success in his long footballing career.
Demba Ba
The Senegalese striker's next step was unknown for quite sometime, but Chelsea made sure they wasted no time in signing the 27 year-old. Bringing him to Stamford Bridge could prove to be some very good business for the London side.
This guy cost all of 7 million pounds. Yes, 7 million.
While that is not a joke, that is approximately one seventh of what Roman Abramovich paid for Fernando Torres. The same Fernando Torres who has tried practically everything he possibly can to get back to his goal scoring ways, but those days seem to come and go with the wind for the Spaniard.
Adding Demba Ba to the mix now gives Chelsea a new dynamic offensively. Oh, and lets not forget his transfer was worth only 7 million pounds.
He featured in 22 games for Newcastle this season before departing for London, contributing 13 goals in all competitions.
How did Chelsea not have a difficult time signing this guy, given what he has brought to the Premier League since his arrival? It is extremely difficult to understand how teams would not consider taking a gamble on a player who was said to have knee problems, yet his price tag was 7 million pounds.
Until Torres figures out what he needs to do to get back to scoring and playing well consistently, Demba Ba will be sure to pick up the slack for the Blues.
This deal could be the deal of the season given the amount of money Chelsea paid for him.
Daniel Sturridge
Brendan Rodgers wasted no time in signing Daniel Sturridge once the transfer window was open. The former Chelsea forward was inconsistent at Stamford Bridge, but Rodgers saw something in him that made him believe he could be an asset to Liverpool.
The Reds missed out on Clint Dempsey over the summer and they were left with Luis Suarez and a young Fabio Borini to carry the load at Anfield. With Borini's injury, Suarez was forced to not only score goals, but he also needed to find a way to get his teammates involved and he did just that.
Now with a chance to add to his side, Rodgers did not think twice. Since his arrival, Sturridge has scored three goals in five games for his new club. Not a bad way to prove your doubters wrong, but how long can the English forward keep up his form?
If Rodgers can get Luis Suarez and Sturridge on the same page in the Liverpool offense, they could both cause some serious problems for any team, especially when you consider Suarez's form.
With so many people doubting his ability, along with Sir Alex Ferguson stating that Liverpool took a huge gamble on him, Sturridge should have more than enough motivation to prove everyone wrong.
While he may not be the answer Liverpool need to get them into a top four finish, Sturridge can and should be able to make a significant contribution at Anfield.
