Group D produced two spectacular matches in their first round of matches and fans are awaiting more impressive showings in the upcoming fixtures.

The story so far

Group D produced some of the best football seen at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations during the the first set of matches and, on Saturday, fans will be eagerly waiting to be served another round of the tasty match-ups. It kicked off with Nigeria recording a 1-0 win over Egypt in a thoroughly entertaining affair inside the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

The Super Eagles, just like the Pharaohs have been tipped for bigger things and Leiecester City's Kelechi Iheanacho wo ensured that their tag as one of the favorites remained intact by scoring the game's only goal. Right on the half-hour mark, the 25-year-old blasted home a world-class strike, while the Super Eagles held on and survived a late onslaught to take all three points.

On Saturday, they will look to flex their muscles once more and keep their four-game unbeaten run going when they come up against Sudan. The Falcons, in what is their ninth appearance at the continental competition, held their ground to record an important draw against Guinea-Bissau in tjeir group opener.

Indeed, their fate was partly aided by 'lady luck' as it remains a mystery as to how they managed to go through the encounter without conceding despite chances being aplenty for their opponent. The most notable occurence among the lot was the veteran Pele's penalty miss in the 82nd which pratically climaxed the frustration of the Guinea-Bissauns.

After Nigeria and Sudan go head to head at the Roumde Adjia in Garoua, the Djurtus will fancy their chances when they come up against a wounded Egyptian side. With the talismanic Mohamed Salah in the squad, the Pharaohs will be poised to return to winning ways against the Bissauans who are without a win across their last five outings in all competitions.

At the moment, the group is fairly open although Nigeria could make a huge statement of intent and book their place to the knockout phase of the competition. As things stand, the Super Eagles are perfectly placed to emerge as the group winners among the pack. On the contrary, a win for Sudan will see them end an 11-game winless streak.
