Aguero forced to retire, announcement incoming

Heartbreaking: Aguero reportedly set to retire from football due to recent heart complications

November 20, 2021 By Ali M.
According to one Spanish journalist, the Argentine icon has been forced to hang up his boots earlier than expected.

Sergio Aguero has undoubtedly been one of the best and deadliest forwards in recent history, dominating the Premier League and leading Man City to several trophies. As a result, recent rumors linking the Argentine with an earlier-than-expected retirement in the wake of his heart complication have brought sadness to the heart of football fans across the globe.

The 33-year-old, who is the Cityzens' all-time top scorer, has not played since suffering breathing issues on the pitch in his first Camp Nou start since joining Barcelona over the summer. The striker was substituted off in that game, a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Alaves back in October, and was quickly taken to hospital.

He was first ruled out for three months in order to undergo a period of observation. However, Barcelona promptly announced an update, revealing that the South American was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia.

Initially, claims that Aguero would be forced to hang up his boots were dismissed as premature. However, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, a decision regarding Kun's future has now been made and the striker will sadly be retiring due to his heart problem.

In fact, the journalist goes as far as claiming that a press conference has been scheduled for next week to announce this decision. While this still remains unofficial, Romero's report has left football lovers heartbroken.

The former Atletico Madrid man scored a whopping 260 goals in 390 games for City, including his breathtaking last-gasp winner against QPR in the final game of the 2010/11 season to seal the Cityzens' first Premier League title. He would go on to lift an additional four English top-flight crowns, winning 15 trophies overall during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

If the aforementioned report is true, then Aguero will bow out of the beautiful game with his strike in El Clasiso being his last goal, a befitting stage for a player of his stature.
