The five-time Ballon d'Or appeared to be fuming at the manager as A Seleção missed out on automatic qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Sunday was not a great day for the Portuguese national team!

The European giants took on Serbia in their 10th and final game of the European World Cup qualifiers, needing simply a draw to secure automatic qualification to Qatar 2022 as the Group A winners. The stars aligned for the Euro 2016 champions as they boasted the home advantage and the superior goal difference, hence why a point would have sufficed.

Unfortunately, A Seleção were nothing short of disappointing and were thus made to pay, losing 2-1 in the final hurdle as half-time substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in the 90th minute to send Serbia through to next year's World Cup. Portugal, as a result, finished in second and will now have to fight their way through the dreaded playoffs.

When the final whistle was blown, the Serbians stormed the pitch in utter jubilation, The Portuguese, on the other hand, dropped to the floor in devastation as their odds of making Qatar 2022 took a huge dent.

The cameras focused in on Cristiano Ronaldo after the disappointing result, and for obvious reasons, being the talisman player and captain. The 36-year-old was both disappointed and frustrated, and understandably so, as the upcoming World Cup could be the last in his illustrious career.

However, the cameras caught one interesting moment as the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was walking off the pitch. Portugal manager Fernando Santos went over to his players to consolidate them but was met with an angry reaction from Cristiano when he crossed his skipper's path. Check it out in the video below.

Was Cristiano merely venting his frustrations at the Portugal boss or was the captain and star player truly airing his anger with the gaffer? This remains uncertain, but what is clear is the anger from the fans in their manager, with several calling for Santos to be sacked immediately.

Relieving the 67-year-old tactician of his duties might not be the path A Seleção go down as it could derail the entire team ahead of the playoffs. However, it should be pointed out that the manager has been under pressure for quite some time now, having disappointed throughout the qualifiers and during last summer's Euro 2020 tournament despite boasting one of the most star-studded national teams.
