Zlatan Ibrahimovic was unable to inspire his side to a win as Sweden fell to a shock loss to Eastern European minnows Georgia in World Cup qualifying.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia isn't a name most people outside Georgia and Eastern Europe will probably have heard of, but he's certainly a hero now in in his home country.

The 20-year-old, who plays his club football for Russian outfit Rubin Kazan, netted a second-half brace - to put Sweden's World Cup ambitions in jeopardy.

Arguably, the Blågult were the heavy favorites in this contest, with the Scandinavian side given a major boost with the return of veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the fold.

But unfortunately, the 40-year-old star was unable to do much to prevent his team from slumping to a shock 2-0 defeat. As things stand, Sweden will hope that Greece can do them a major favor and block Spain from leap-frogging them into top spot. The Blågult currently have 15 points, but La Roja are just two points back, meaning that a win for Luis Enrique's side would see them take pole position in Group B.

Should that happen, the pressure really will be on Ibrahimovic and his teammates to beat Spain in their upcoming clash this weekend, with an automatic berth to the 2022 World Cup at stake.

Sweden certainly aren't out of the running, but if they do end up finishing in second, they'll have to try their luck at nabbing a ticket by a play-off round - something that, naturally, they'll be hoping to avoid doing.
