Reds grab two records in double over Atlético

Liverpool celebrate milestones with two-nil win against Atlético

November 3, 2021 By Oscar Rojas
Goals by Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota sealed the deal for Liverpool, who also ended a winless drought against Los Colchoneros at Anfield.

Liverpool have booked their spot in the KO stage of the UEFA Champions League with an emphatic display against Atlético at Anfield. More than that, the Reds also picked up a couple of records while defeating Diego Simeone's men in a game that should have had a wider gap between the sides.

Two first-half goals courtesy of Diogo Jota and Sadio Mané paved the way for Liverpool's win against Atlético, and the red card shown to Felipe practically ended Atlético's chances of stealing a point away from Anfield this evening.

Fans could have seen Liverpool claim a wider lead during tonight's game at Anfield, but some of their strikers were not spot on when it came to the final touch. Either way, the way they dominated Atlético earned them a franchise record that had stood since 1982.

If that was not enough reason for fans to be happy, their German boss will also have a night of celebration with his 200th win as Liverpool's coach. The tactician has joined quite an elite list of bosses to have reached or surpassed that number.
