Bundesliga – top headlines

  • Not only did Freiburg's 3-1 win keep them within three points of league leaders Bayern Munich, but it also saw the third-placed side move five points clear of fourth-placed Leverkusen. But that's not all! Christian Streich's men maintained their unbeaten run this season, going 10 top-flight fixtures without suffering a single defeat, equaling the club's longest-ever unbeaten, which was set in 2011/12.

  • Bayern Munich's 5-2 win over Union Berlin was a memorable one, and for two different reasons. Firstly, that result saw Thomas Muller reach a lovely feat. The German, who had a hand in four of the five goals, found the back of the net, making Saturday's opposition the 26th Bundesliga team he has scored against, with only Lewandowski (28) boasting a higher figure. Furthermore, that five-goal haul from the defending champions took their goalscoring tally to 36, making it the highest number of goals scored by a team after only 10 rounds in Bundesliga history.

  • Wolfsburg's 2-0 win over Leverkusen was impressive as it saw the visitors end their horrible eight-game winless streak. On the flip side, this result leaves Die Werkself winless in their last five outings, three of which has come in the German top-flight (D2, L1).

Top matches to watch in the Bundesliga: Nov. 5-7, 2021

Bayern München vs Freiburg: Remember how we said Freiburg are on a record-equaling unbeaten streak? Well, that run will be put to the utmost test this weekend as the Bundesliga's third-placed team are set to face none other than defending champions and league leaders Bayern Munich. Lewandowski and Co. boast the best attack in the league, and by a mile, netting a whopping 36 goals so far. However, the visitors boast the best defense, having let in only seven goals. Can Breisgau-Brasilianer pull off an eye-catching victory at the Allianz Arena? Tune in to find out.

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund: With Bayern Munich and Freiburg facing off on Saturday, Dortmund will look to capitalize on this fixture as they could either go top of the table – should the Bavarians lose – or strengthen their grip on the second spot. Unfortunately, Marco Rose's side will also be in for a tought fixture as they are set to visit Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig. Nkunku  and Co. missed out on the opportunity to enter the top five after conceding an equalizer in the final minute of added time against Eintracht Frankfurt, and will thus be looking to bounce back when Bellingham and Co. pay them a visit.

Hertha BSC vs Bayer Leverkusen: Winless in their last five, Leverkusen are in danger of fading off if they do not immediately turn around their fortunes. Back-to-back draws followed their embarrassing 5-1 loss at home to Bayern Munich, with Die Werkself falling eight points behind the league leaders. Next up for them is a clash with 12th-placed Hertha BSC. Failure to win next weekend will raise serious questions regarding Leverkusen's hopes of qualifying for Europe.
