Russia’s Zenit have captured the signature of Brazilian star attacker Hulk. The former FC Porto showman is bound to remain with his new club until 2017.
Looking at his calibre, Hulk had always been tipped to join Barcelona, Real Madrid or Chelsea. The player even told the press earlier this summer:

“I have left the door open to be transferred. My preference is to play in England or Spain because they are the most watched league in the world. Now is a great time for me to move.”

Meanwhile Barcelona and Real Madrid preferred to strenghten their midfield and defence. The Blaugrana signed Jordi Alba and Alexandre Song during the 2012 summer transfer window while Los Blancos welcomed Luka Modric and Michael Essien at the Bernabeu.

It was understood that Chelsea were favourites to land Hulk following the exit of striker Didier Drogba. However, the prospect of a transfer faded away due to the Brazilian’s astronomical €50M price tag.

Recent news now explains that Luciano Spalleti’s Zenit placed a daring bid that apparently seduced the Dragons of FC Porto. Zenit will felicitate themselves for capturing the distinctive Brazilian playmaker.

This mega transfer could play a huge role in the Russian club’s 2012/13 UEFA Champions League campaign. Expect the media to pour a lot of ink on the London 2012 silver medallist ahead of Zenit’s European fixtures against Italian giants AC Milan and Spain’s Malaga in the group stages of the tournament.
