Luka Modric is a Real Madrid player at last. The Croatian midfielder officially put an end to his Tottenham Hotspur career on Monday for a deal worth around €42M.
Andre Villas-Boas is expected to use the money to enhance Spurs’ squad. FC Porto’s Joao Moutinho and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Willian are rumoured to be two of the manager’s top transfer targets. Luka Modric’s departure from White Hart Lane became increasingly inevitable this summer.

It is understood that the Croatian star wanted to quit the London side since the past two years. Commenting on Luka Modric’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur, club chairman Daniel Levy told the press:

“Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership.”

On Monday morning, Los Blancos’ official website confirmed that Luka Modric successfully completed the medical at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital. Welcoming the signing of the ex-Tottenham Hotspur player, a statement read:

“Real Madrid now have a very talented and creative organiser in midfield, an offensive player who can assist his teammates and move the ball around intelligently while always working hard and making sacrifices for the good of the team.”

Real Madrid are without a win this season. They drew their first La Liga match of the season against Valencia before losing the first-leg of the Spanish Super Cup away to Barcelona.

Last Sunday, Real Madrid suffered an embarrassing loss to Getafe. With the arrival of Luka Modric and the departure of Nuri Sahin on loan to Liverpool, coach Jose Mourinho will be hoping to readjust his tactics.

Luka Modric will wear Real Madrid’s number 19 jersey. He is bound to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2017.
