A superb Oribe Peralta scored a goal in each half to lead El Tri to an upset victory over the much-fancied Brazilians at Wembley Stadium.
Mexico won the Olympic Games soccer gold medal after defeating Brazil 2-1 in front of more than 86,000 fans on Saturday.

The Brazilians came into the clash as the odds-on favourites to win the gold medal, but they were in for a rude awakening, as barely 29 seconds into the game Mexico took a shock lead.

Oribe Peralta took advantage of a misplaced pass from Manchester United right back Rafael, and charged into the area before slotting the ball past Brazil goalkeeper Gabriel.

Mexico continued to look the more dangerous of the two sides as the half progressed, but failed to add to their advantage.

Brazil, who have never won the Olympic gold medal, played far below their potential, as although Neymar showed flashes of his brilliance, their attack couldn't manage to get a clear sight on the Mexican goal defended by Jesus Corona.

Mexico, on the other hand, looked extremely dangerous each time they moved forward, and were unfortunate not to add their second, when an overhead kick from Marco Fabian clipped the crossbar.

In the 69th minute it seemed that Mexico had gone two-up, but a goal from Peralta was disallowed for an offside infringement. Moments later the same player missed a point-black header.

However, he got things right in the 75th minute, when he connected to a free-kick with a fine header to put the Mexicans in a commanding position.

A desperate Brazil managed to pull a goal back through Hulk in second half injury time, and could have forced a draw had Oscar been more accurate when presented with a free header.
