The U.S. men’s national team will look to avenge a 1-0 away loss against Panama last week when hosting Costa Rica at Lower.com Field in Ohio on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. The clash will be broadcast live in the USA on ESPN2, TUDN and UniMas.

Only two points separate third-place USA from fifth-place Costa Rica in the FIFA World Cup Concacaf qualifiers final round.

Looking at the USMNT

The Stars and Stripes have secured eight of the 15 possible points up to this stage of the competition, living good and bad moments along the way. Draws against El Salvador and Canada to kick off the final round worried American fans, but a 4-1 away win at Honduras to close September play lifted the spirits.

Eighteen-year-old Ricardo Pepi's brace against Jamaica helped the USA overtake Mexico in the standings. However, USMNT head coach Greg Berhalter altered the starting lineup for the following game against Panama, resulting in a 1-0 away loss where his team failed to register a single shot on target.

Costa Rica in need of results

As for Costa Rica, they arrive at this contest with six points and a 0-0-2 away record.

Los Ticos were able to frustrate Panama and Honduras to goalless draws in their two away games so far in the final stage of World Cup Concacaf qualifying. Despite the Costa Rican media pressure on the national team after a poor run of results, a draw this time around against the USA would not be a negative result. But a draw would see the team overtake the Americans.
