Goal.com reports that Real Madrid have improved their initial €35.5M bid to €44.4M for the transfer of Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric.
Meanwhile, sources in Spain suggest that the Croatian midfielder has already agreed on a four-year deal that will see him earn around €152,000 a week. This fresh report coincides with Andre Villas-Boas' statement in an interview with BBC Sport on Thursday.

“The interest we have from various different clubs shows the importance of the player and what he's done for Tottenham,” Villas-Boas declared.

“It's fair to say that the club respects Luka's ambitions and his willingness to move on and he respects the fact that he's an important player for the club and can help us move forward.

“Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party.”

Regardless, some Tottenham Hotspur supporters have brushed rumours that Luka Modric is on his way out. However, former Croatian international and Real Madrid defender and Robert Jarni has accepted transfer speculations surrounding Modric in the media.

Jarni is even anticipating life at the Santiago Bernabeu for the dynamic Spurs midfielder. Earlier this week, Robert Jarni was quoted as saying by AS:

“It is difficult to know how he [Luka Modric] will react when he arrives. We must see where he is going to play and what Mourinho thinks of him.

“Whether he will be a starter or not, or if he [Jose Mourinho] will want to rotate him. All that must be taken into account because Madrid have quality players.”

Many believe that Luka Modric will waste his talent on the bench if he indeed moves to Real Madrid. However, Robert Jarni thinks otherwise. The ex-Croatian left-back expects Modric to evolve like Sami Khedira or Xabi Alonso.

“What I will say is that his way of playing and seeing football matches ties in well with Madrid and the Spanish League.

“He's a very humble guy, with his feet on the ground and, as a player, he has a lot of quality. Luka has the profile of a Madrid player. I think he has an extraordinary quality.

“If confirmed, his move will raise the level of team play. It seems a wise move on the part of Madrid,” Robert Jarni concluded.

Meanwhile, at White Hart Lane, new coach Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly working around the clock to reshuffle his squad. It is believed that Joao Moutinho is a hot name on AVB's transfer wish list as a replacement for Luka Modric.
