RB Leipzig finally getting on track? It's been a difficult season for American tactician Jesse Marsch, who first saw his team kick off proceedings with a 4-0 win over lower tier Sandhausen in the DFB Pokal, but then opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Mainz. Although they rebounded with a resounding 4-0 win against Stuttgart in a historic "all-American" derby, things quickly went downhill for die Roten Bullen as they recorded three straight losses to Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, and notably, Manchester City following a nine-goal thriller.
Well, it seems that they've finally gotten back on track, as over the weekend, Marsch's men picked up a resounding 6-0 win over Hertha Berlin. This win is notable as it marks the first time since their DFB-Pokal win that Leipzig have kept a clean sheet and more important, they scored as many goals (six) as they had in their prior five league games.
Wirtz makes history in Leverkusen's win: Florian Wirtz netted his tenth goal of his nascent Bundesliga career as Leverkusen beat Mainz to rise into second spot. In doing so, the rising starlet has now netted in his fourth consecutive game and more significant, has ensured that his name now will remain in Bundesliga history books. Wirtz, at 18 years, four months, and 23 days old, is now the youngest player to reach double digits in Bundesliga goals, breaking Lukas Podolski's record from 18 years ago during the 2003/2004 season.
Ten men, no worries for dominant Bayern: Newly promoted Greuther Fürth may have thought they just might be getting a break when Bayern went down to ten men, but not so much. Although Benjamin Pavard was given his marching orders for a foul on former Bayern man Julian Green, Sebastian Griesbeck's own goal put die Roten 3-0 up and pretty much doomed any chances of a comeback. In short, Cedric Itten's late goal proved to be no more than a consolation, and although Lewandowski was unable to score for the first time in seemingly ages, Julian Naglesmann's side nonetheless, as expected, picked up a win over the strugglers to remain on top of the league table.
Marco Rose's return to Gladbach doesn't go as planned: This was the first time that Rose was facing his former side since leaving Gladbach to manage Dortmund. In the first Borussen derby of the season, all the spoils went to Gladbach thanks to a goal from Denis Zakaria, which helped to lift his side out of the drop zone and blocked die Schwarzgelben from moving into second spot. Mahmoud Dahoud's sending off didn't help matters, either, and this result means that Dortmund's club record of 37 matches in which they scored at least once came to an end.
