The Argentine giants are on the brink of advancing to the final of South America's biggest club competition after a well-deserved victory at the Bombonera stadium.
Boca Juniors, Argentina's most popular club, are just a step away from reaching the final of the Copa Libertadores after beating Universidad de Chile 2-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals in front of 55,000 fans at the Bombonera stadium on Thursday.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva turned his marker and fired the ball home following good lead-up work from strike-partner Pablo Mouche down the right flank.

Juan Sanchez Mino doubled Boca's advantage in the 55th minute, when he pounced on a rebound from an earlier Walter Erviti shot, which could only be blocked by Universidad goalkeeper Jhonny Herrera.

Should Boca, who have won the Copa Libertadores six times, avoid a two-goal defeat in the return leg in Santiago next week, they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Brazilian rivals Santos and Corinthians.

On Wednesday, Corinthians picked up a valuable 1-0 victory at Santos' Vila Belmiro stadium courtesy of a strike from Emerson in the 28th minute, giving them a good advantage ahead of next week's second leg at their very own Pacaembu stadium.

Santos are the defending champions of the competition, after having beaten Penarol of Uruguay in the 2011 final.
