It is the largest soccer arena in Poland with over 58,000 seats to accommodate fervent followers of Euro 2012.

The National Stadium in Warsaw will stage as many as 5 matches which include the competition’s opening fixture between Poland and Greece on June 8.

June 8, 2012: Poland vs Greece – Group A
June 12, 2012: Poland vs Russia – Group A

 

June 16, 2012: Greece vs Russia – Group A
June 21, 2012: A1 vs B2 – Quarter-final

The PGE Arena in Gdansk, Poland

This is where Euro 2008 champions Spain will start the defence of their title. La Furia Roja will play all their Group C matches at the PGE Arena. What is certain is that they will not return to Gdansk for a game should they progress further in the tournament.

This is because the stadium’s last UEFA Euro 2012 fixture will be between the winner of Group B and the runner of Group A. The quarter-finals affair at the PGE Arena on June 22 could feature co-hosts Poland against the heroes of the “group of death” battles.

The Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, PolandThe Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, Poland is ready for UEFA Euro 2012

The Municipal Stadium is the fourth largest arena in Poland after the National Stadium, the Silesia Stadium and the PGE Arena Gdansk. It has a capacity of almost 43,000 seats. It hosted its first football match on October 10, 2011 as Slask Wroclaw and Lechia Gdansk faced each other.

The former clinched a 1-0 victory making Johan Voskamp the first player to score a goal in the new Municipal Stadium. During the 2012 European Championship, co-hosts Poland will play there only once. The venue will witness 3 of Euro 2012’s 31 matches.

The Municipal Stadium in Poznan, Poland

There is another arena called the Municipal Stadium. This one is located in Poznan and was constructed way back between 1968 and 1980. It took 7 years of reconstruction before the public experienced the stadium’s grand opening on September 20, 2010.

Like the arena in Wroclaw, it will also host nothing more than 3 matches. The Municipal Stadium in Poznan will see the Irish play their first ever European Championship finals game in 24 years. Eight days after their opening fixture against Croatia, the Republic of Ireland will return to the Municipal Stadium in Poznan to affront Italy.

The Olympic National Stadium Sports Complex opened with a lavish ceremony.The Olympic National Sports Complex in Kiev, Ukraine

In the Olympic National Sports Complex stadium, Kiev boasts of possessing Eastern Europe’s second biggest sports venue after the Luzhniki Stadium.

International pop stars like George Michael and Shakira have staged concert at the Olympic National Sports Complex. This is where the final match of UEFA Euro 2012 will be played on July 1.

Sweden will play all their group games at this venue. In addition, the Olympic National Sports Complex will host a quarter-final match. The list of fixtures is as follows:

The Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine

The Donbass Arena erects in the centre of Donetsk. It can hold up to 52,518 spectators. Expect it to be packed with fans when France and England will open their Euro 2012 campaign with a thrilling match on June 11. According to reports, over $300M was invested to get the Donbass Arena ready for this summer’s tournament. Construction work by Turkish company ENKA began in 2006 (when Ukraine had not yet been chosen as Euro 2012 co-hosts) and ended in 2009, ahead of schedule.

The Metalist Oblast Sports Complex in Kharkhiv, Ukraine

Relatively small in size, the Metalist Oblast Sports Complex will host no more than 3 European Championship matches. It is the home stadium of club football team Metalist Kharkiv. The Netherlands will play the totality of their Group B matches at this renovated venue which first opened in September 1926.

The Arena Lviv in Lviv, UkraineThe Arena Lvivi is the smallest stadium to host UEFA Euro 2012 matches.

It took a bit less than 2 years for construction work at the Arena Lviv to be completed. In November last year, Ukraine and Austria inaugurated the stadium with a friendly match which ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts.

Euro 2008 runners-up Germany will play their first and their third 2012 European Championship fixture at the Arena Lviv. Spectators will be eager to see Bayern Munich stars trying to put their painful 2012 Champions League final defeat behind them against Paul Bento’s Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portuguese squad.
