The Inter Milan striker played down the fact that Uruguay come into their World Cup qualifier against Venezuela as the odds on favourites.
Diego Forlan believes that Venezuela are not easy beats any longer, and that Uruguay will have to be at their very best to overcome their rivals in Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Montevideo.

"Since I have been part of the national team, to play against Venezuela was never easy; Venezuelan soccer has progressed heaps, and today they have players who play in good leagues of Europe, Mexico and South America," stated the Inter Milan striker.

"We know that all of the rivals are complicated in the World Cup qualifiers, but the Venezuelans have grown immensely over the years," he admitted to reporters during a pre-game press conference.

As well as this, Forlan said, "each day soccer shows you that history matters less and less, and you have to think about the present of every national team."

Uruguay, who remained unbeaten as they lifted a record 15th Copa America in Argentina last year, are the odds on favourites to obtain the three points, and as Forlan states will look for a victory at all costs.

"We obviously are thinking about beating Venezuela and then claim another three points against Peru because we are playing at home. But in soccer you can't be assured of anything."

Forlan, who failed to impress during his first season with Inter Milan where he only scored twice, said he feels "good, despite playing little lately."

When Uruguay last met Venezuela for a World Cup qualifier in Montevideo in 2008, they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw.
