What you need to know ahead of Juventus vs Milan and Serie A MD 4 games

September 16, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
Juventus vs Milan will be the highlight game of matchday four, but there's plenty of other interesting games that Serie A fans won't want to miss out on this weekend.

As the 2021/2022 Serie A season picks up steam, we are already seeing some breaks starting to form in the league table. Whereas there were five teams with a perfect record heading into matchday three, that number now has been cut to three, as both Inter and Lazio failed to win their respective matches against Sampdoria and AC Milan.

However, there have been some teams who have been slowly inching up the table, namely some of Italy's smaller outfits. Whether they'll be able to maintain this pace long-term remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Juventus will be hoping that this weekend may be the time they finally can turn things around after a bad start to the current campaign.

Here's all you need to know ahead of matchday four.

Serie A standings heading into matchday four

As you can see, there have been some changes from the last round regarding the top five sides, namely with Lazio sliding from first to seventh and Udinese breaking into this group for the first time

Serie A games you won't want to miss on matchday four

Inter vs Bologna: It's been a disappointing week for Inter so far, to say the least. The Nerazzurri had to settle for a draw with a very determined Sampdoria side, thus dropping points for the first time all season and causing them to slip into fourth spot. Then, they were pitted against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stages for the second straight season, and despite their best efforts, were unable to prevent Carlo Ancelotti's side from grabbing a late goal, leaving them empty-handed. Now, they'll face Bologna, who also on seven points and will be hoping to spring an upset at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Juventus vs Milan: Juventus will come into this match having beaten Malmo 3-0, which was exactly the tonic the Bianconeri needed after a bad start to their domestic campaign. It will remain to be seen whether La Vecchia Signora can use this as a springboard to finally secure their first win, as they recently lost 2-1 to Napoli and in fact, have picked up just one point this season. Milan, meanwhile, were beaten by Liverpool in a five-goal thriller in their first Champions League group stage match since 2013, but unlike Juventus, have done quite well in Serie A. To date, Stefano Pioli's side have won each of their opening three games, including a 2-0 win over Lazio and will hope to take advantage of Juve's struggles to make it four wins in four league games.

Hellas Verona vs Roma: It's been an excellent season so far for Roma under Jose Mourinho and the Lupi will seek to keep the good times rolling when they travel to face Hellas Verona, who have yet to pick up a single point from their first three games. Roma's 2-1 win over Sassuolo marked Mourinho's 1,000th game in charge as a manager, and more important, the first time any of his teams have been able to win five games in a row.
