Bundesliga MD4 Round-up: Dortmund come out on top in seven-goal thriller, Bayern hits Leipzig for four as Wolfsburg retain top-spot

The Bundesliga served up several thrillers with club football returning after the international break.

The exciting start to the 2021/2022 Bundesliga season was reinstated after the international break with several match centers serving up interesting results and sub-plots this weekend. The situation at the top of the table remained the same as Wolfsburg successfully added to their unbeaten run with a 2-0 away win over Greuther Furth.

Champions Bayern put RB Leipzig to the sword, smashing their league rivals 4-1 in what was the first homecoming for Julian Nagelsmann, Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer since their respective moves to Munich this summer. Over in Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund rose above the ashes on three seperate occasions to secure a 4-3 win over their host. Relatively, their cross-town rivals Borussia Monchengladbach ended their poor start to the campaign by securing a 3-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld.

Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski converted a spot-kick in the win over RB Leipzig to increase his tally for the season to five. Erling Haaland's brace in his side's 4-3 victory over Leverkusen took his haul to five. Koln's Anthony Modeste completed the top three this weekend after finding the target in the 1-1 draw with Freiburg.

Gerrit Holtmann solo strike wins the August Goal of the Month: Gerrit Holtmann's solo effort in Bochum's 2-0 win over Mainz received the most votes to be adjudged the first Goal of the Month of 2021/22. The midfielder competed against Dortmund's Marco Reus, Grifo, Gnabry, Haaland, Jeong, Schick, Awoniyi and Forsberg for the award.

Bayern Munich ruled out of race to sign Erling Haaland: Former Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the Bundesliga heavyweights will not be able to buy Erling Haaland. This, he believes, is because of the impending bidding war set to be sparked for the most sought-after talents in the world at the moment.

Goretzka agrees new long-term contract with Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has reportedly agreed a new long-term contract with the Bundesliga champions, securing his future at the Allianz Arena. The former Schalke man's existing deal was due to expire next summer, and raised the possibility that he could leave Bayern on a free transfer. However, reports emerging from Germany have indicated that any such move away is off the table after headway was finally made in the negotiations.

  • Stuttgart vs Bayer Leverkusen: The latter will be eager to bounce back from last weekend's disappointment against Borussia Dortmund when they travel to the Mercedes Benz Arena. Their host held their ground to secure a point against Frankfurt after having a man sent off in the thrilling 1-1 encounter over the weekend.

  • Borussia Dortmund vs Union Berlin: Die BVB finally managed two wins in a row following their sub-par start to the season and will be eager to bulid on the comeback victory over Leverkusen when they host Union. Relatively, the latter will be poised to keep their unbeaten run this season intact when they travel to the Signal Iduna Park.

  • Wolfsburg vs Frankfurt: The current league leaders will host a disappointed Frankfurt side who failed to utlize a man advantage to get the better of Stuttgart this weekend. Their hosts will however not leave anything to chance with their 100 percent record also on the line after putting Bochum to the sword.
