The Ligue 1 leaders look to maintain their perfect start to the season when they host the newly-promoted side.

Preview

With the international break coming to an end, the focus shifts back to club football, with the 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign resuming this weekend. Title favorites PSG will be in action on Saturday, taking on Clermont in an interesting 10 a.m. ET at the Parc des Princes.

The Paris giants have issued an early statement of intent in the title race, winning all four games of the 2021/22 campaign with ease to march to an early lead at the top of the table. Two points separate Pochettino's men from second-placed Angers. While the French giants boast the joint-second worst defense from the top-five teams, Mbappe and Co. have shown their superiority in attack, outscoring every other team so far.

With 12 goals under their belt, it comes as little surprise to see PSG top of the table, scoring four goals inside 90 minutes in back-to-back games. Their most recent outing was the 2-0 victory over Reims right before the international break, with Kylian continuing his excellent goalscoring form, netting a brace to take his tally this season to three goals.

Despite the three points and the Man of the Match performance from Mbappe, all eyes were on Lionel Messi as the summer signing made his highly-anticipated debut for his new club. The Argentina came on in the 25 minutes of the game amid much fanfare. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner did not enjoy the debut he would have liked as PSG mainly saw out the game after his introduction, but it was a welcomed sight.

This will thus be a tricky fixture for newly-promoted side Clermont, but it should be pointed out that they've enjoyed a lovely start to life in the French top-flight. The visitors were held to back-to-back draws in their last two games—against Lyon and Metz—but remain third in the table thanks to victories over Troyes and Bordeaux. Don't miss this clash.

Team news

PSG: Pochettino has several issues to contend with as Messi, Di Maria, Paredes, and Neymar all returned late as they were in action on Thursday. Elsewhere, Kylian Mbappe picked up a knock that forced him to withdraw. Colin Dagba, Sergio Ramos, Juan Bernat and Layvin Kurzawa all remain on the sidelines while influential midfielder Marco Verratti is out with a knee injury.

Clermont: The visitors have no injury concerns.
