The Albiceleste icon was not happy to see medical officials and federal police walk onto the pitch to halt Sunday's World Cup qualifier.

Sunday's clash between Brazil and Argentina, a highly-anticipated World Cup qualifier between South America's two biggest footballing nations, quickly turned into an embarrassment and disappointment for those watching. The match kicked off at 3 p.m. ET as scheduled but after only five minutes of play, utter chaos broke as medical authorities and Brazilian federal police officers walked onto the pitch to halt the game.

Initially, many were confused as to what was going on. However, the dilemma was quickly explained to those who had tuned in with the expectation of watching a thrilling 90 minutes of football.

The Brazilian authorities had arrived at the pitch to detain four La Albiceleste players: Emiliano Martinez, Emiliano Buendia, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso. Those players, three of which started the game, were accused of lying in documents they filled when entering the country so as to escape the mandatory two-week quarantine rule.

All four players play in the Premier League and have thus been in the United Kingdom in the 14 days prior to entering Brazil. Under the country's law, they would have been required to isolate for fourteen days but failed to do so and were thus wanted for detention and possible deportation.

As the officials made their way onto the pitch, long discussions were held between the authorities and members of the national teams while the players remained unaware of what to do. Soon afterwards, the Argentine national team walked off the pitch and headed for the dressing room, with the game later being suspended.

Lionel Messi, the captain of the reigning Copa America champions, was heavily involved in the dialogue with the Brazilian authorities alongside head coach Lionel Scaloni. Given the hard work and preparation that had gone into this crucial game, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner was not happy to see the proceedings be halted in such a manner and made his feelings known to the officials.

"We've been here for three days," the newly-signed PSG ace was caught on camera saying.

"Were they waiting for the match to start? Why not warn about this beforehand or at the hotel?

"They could have explained this and it would be sorted. Now, the world is watching."

The former Barcelona man also added "this is a mess, we're off" before heading down the tunnel. The game was initially halted then suspended, with CONMEBOL stating that a decision will be made by FIFA after an investigation. Will it simply be rescheduled? Will the Selecao be handed a 3-0 win as the Argentines walked off the pitch? Time will tell.
