The Belgian also discussed how far he went to push for a transfer back to Stamford Bridge.

One of the transfers that caught the most attention during the recently concluded transfer window was Romelu Lukaku's return to Chelsea after spells with Inter Milan and Manchester United. In a recent interview with Belgian television channel HLN, the footballer thanked his former employers for the chance to go back to the Premier League, but while doing so he aimed a scathing dig at Manchester United.

In the interview, Lukaku referred to his time at Manchester United in unflattering terms, which were highlighted by his frequent back and forths with Manchester United fans and pundits, who even went as far as to call him "fat". That, and how he found a new love for the game during his time in Italy, were the main topics of the conversation.

"I didn't want to go behind Inter's back. They got me out of the s**t. I was in a deep hole at Man United. I loved every minute of it in the Premier League both on and off the field, but the experiences in Italy made me more complete as a player," Lukaku said.

Then, the striker revealed how he had to convince Inter boss Simone Inzaghi to let him leave despite having him in his plans for the ongoing season.

"I only realised that Chelsea were serious when they made their third offer. One day after training, I went to Inzaghi's office. I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere because I was no longer with my head in Milan. So I asked him: please find an agreement," Lukaku added.

The striker hit the ground running with the Blues, as he scored once in his second EPL debut with the club against Arsenal. Now, he is on international duty with Belgium, where he scored a brace against Estonia in his last game.
