The USMNT and Los Cuscatlecos will start their quest for a new World Cup tonight. Keep track of this game with our detailed preview.

The Final Round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers will get underway this Thursday, and what better way to do so than watching El Salvador and the USMNT going at it in one of the late kickoff games of the evening. Both teams have pending issues in this stage of the qualifiers, which is why starting their run in the tournament with a win should be in their top of mind.

El Salvador return to this stage of the qualifiers after an eleven year absence. The last time Los Cuscatlecos played in a Final Round of the CONCACAF Qualifiers took place before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where they finished fifth among the six teams playing. The Central American team showed good form in the recently concluded CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they made the Quarterfinals of the competition but ended up being eliminated by Qatar with a 3-2 score.

For this game, coach Hugo Pérez will have the best squad he could ask for. The former USMNT international chose to call up players such as Alexander Larín, Eriq Zavaleta or Darwin Cerén, who's experience in the MLS could prove crucial to try and claim a win against the American side.

On the other side of the pitch, the Yanks return to the final stage of the qualifiers after a summer to remember, where they claimed the CONCACAF Nations League and CONCACAF Gold Cup titles, both of them by beating their bitter rivals, Mexico, in two games that needed extra time to be decided. Gregg Berhalter's team will have an obligation to claim a spot in the quadrennial competition after missing out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Coach Berhalter will have the need to change his squad due to some restrictions imposed on some of his footballers. Hence, players such as Christian Pulisic may not be available for this game. Even so, players such as Tyler Adams, Josh Sargent, Gio Reyna, or Sergiño Dest will be in charge of leading the Stars and Stripes to their first three points of the competition.

The game between Los Cuscatlecos and the USMNT will be the 25th time in which they lock horns. All stats favor the USMNT, who have won 18 of those games, with only one win for El Salvador's team and five draws. The only win for Los Cuscatlecos against the American side took place in a friendly match held back in 1992. Since then, the Yanks have won fifteen of their 18 encounters.
