It was a weekend to forget for the Old Lady but one to remember for AC Milan's newly-signed center forward.

Matchday 2 in Serie A has come to a wrap, with the latest round in the Italian top-flight bringing about favorable results for some of the country's biggest teams, and an upsetting defeat for one heavyweight. Defending champions Inter Milan made it two wins out of two, taking on Hellas Verona and brushing them aside 3-1 thanks to Lautaro Martinez and a Correa brace. Atalanta were held to a disappointing goalless draw while Lazio thrashed Spezia 6-1 to move top of the table the following day.

Juventus were in action in the final game on Saturday, taking on Empoli in their first game since Cristiano Ronaldo's exit was confirmed. The Old Lady unfortunately lost that fixture, going down 1-0 at their very-own stadium. AC Milan and Roma took to the field in the final two games of this round, beating Cagliari and Salernitana 4-1 and 2-0 respectively. Here's everything you need to know about matchday 2 in Serie A.

  • Pepe Reina amazingly got an assist in Lazio's 6-1 victory over Spezia, and as a result, stretched his record for most assists by a goalkeeper in Europe's top-five leagues (6).

  • Juventus' 1-0 loss to Empoli means they've failed to win their opening two games of the season for only the third time in history.

  • However, Saturday's game was a memorable one for Juan Cuadrado as the Colombian ace made his 300th appearance for the Old Lady. Iván Córdoba (323) and Cristián Zapata (311) are the only Colombians with more Italian top-flight appearances in modern football.

  • AC Milan registered an excellent 4-1 triumph over Cagliari, with the newly-signed Olivier Giroud scoring a brace in that victory. As a result, the Frenchman became the first Rossoneri player to score twice on his home debut since Balotelli in 2013.

  • Roma's impressive start to the season continues, beating Salernitana 4-0 in this round. This means Mourinho's men have netted seven times in their first two fixtures, making this only the second time since the 1970s that the Giallorossi have pulled this off.

Top matches to watch in Serie A: Sept. 12, 2021

AC Milan vs Lazio: Both AC Milan and Lazio have begun the season extremely well, winning their opening two fixtures. However, they will face off upon the return from the international break, meaning one side – or both – will drop points for the first time this season. Who will it be? Tune in to find out.

Napoli vs Juventus: Things aren't going well for Juventus and it will only get harder once Serie A resumes after the international break. A draw and a defeat in their opening two games cannot be accepted in Turin, but with the Old Lady set to face off with Napoli next, Allegri's men could go three games without a victory.

Sampdoria vs Inter Milan: The departures of Hakimi, Lukaku, and Conte haven't hindered the Nerazzurri so far. Two wins out of two is an impressive start to the campaign, having scored seven goals against both Genoa and Hellas Verona. Sampdoria, meanwhile, are winless and will look to pull off an upset in their clash with Inter Milan. Do not miss this tie.
