Les Parisiens are now the top-ranked team in the French league despite not having Lionel Messi or Neymar around.

The top football category in France gave fans a lot to talk about, starting with PSG's win over Brest back on Friday. That win, combined with Clermont and Angers' draws left Les Parisiens as the only team with three wins in their first three matches of the competition.

Things for the rest of the teams continued in similar fashion as in the past weeks, with Lille falling further behind after this weekend's draw or Lyon's inability to beat Clermont despite holding on to the lead for the better part of the match. Even so, Nice and Marseille got the most attention due to their suspended match, which was caused by a fight between Nice fans, who threw things at Marseille's players and ended up hitting Dimitri Payet, who threw an object back and caused things to get out of hand.

Without further ado, here are the main talking points after Matchday 3 in the Bundesliga.

Who are the top five Ligue 1 teams after Matchday 3?

As mentioned before, PSG now have the top spot of the competition after beating Brest. The team from the French capital has found the back of the net ten times, but Pochettino's men have not been able to keep a single clean sheet in the competition, which has seen them concede the most goals among the top six teams in the tournament.

Ligue 1 top 3 scorers

Dimitri Payet and Mohamed Bayo kept their spot as the top scorers in the league with three goals, even if neither of them was able to find the back of the net this week. Meanwhile, Montpellier's Andy Delort added one more goal to his tally and continued his rise in the goalscoring ranks.

Ligue 1 – Top headlines

  • Mbappé ends goalscoring hoodoo against Brest - The French striker had gone four years without a goal using his head in the French top-flight until this Friday's game against Brest. This was his first headed goal with PSG since his arrival in 2018.

  • PSG continue making history in French top-flight - The French side has once again claimed three wins in a row during the first three matches of a season. This is the fourth time they have accomplished that feat in the past seven seasons.

  • OL announce the signing of UCL winner with Liverpool - What started out as a rumor has been confirmed in the late hours of Sunday, as Olympique Lyonnais have secured the signing of Swiss ace Xherdan Shaqiri. The winger, who signed a deal for the next three seasons with the Lions, played over 60 games with the Reds and scored eight goals for the Reds, but slowly fell down Jurgen Klopp's pecking order. His addition will come in handy for Lyon's boss to add depth to a team that could be considered a title contender if things fall into place.

Top matches to watch in Ligue 1 from Aug. 27-29, 2021

Olympique Marseille vs Saint-Étienne: Les Olympiens are still waiting on Ligue 1's decision about their game against Nice, but even if they have to play the match entirely or forfeit the game, they have to prepare to face Saint-Étienne next week. The match should be quite entertaining to watch, since both teams are still unbeaten up to this point of the season and both sides will be eager to add a win to their tally next weekend.

Lille vs Montpellier: The defending champions have struggled to win games this season, and their clash against Montpellier could see them get in more trouble in the event of a loss. Les Dogues will face a team that has not lost any of its last two games and also has among their ranks one of the top scorers in the competition (Andy Delort, with two goals).

Reims vs PSG: The French capital team could finally see Lionel Messi making his debut in the domestic competition, and that should be enough reason to keep track of this game. Furthermore, Pochettino's team will try to keep their first clean sheet of the campaign, and facing a team that has scored as many goals as they have conceded (four) should help that purpose.
