After several years in France, the versatile defender is set to return to his native country by completing a switch to AC Milan

Although AC Milan failed to win the Scudetto as they were eventually overtaken by Inter, the Rossoneri managed to finish in second place, thus securing Champions League football for themselves for the first time since the 2013/2014 season. To that end, they've looked to further bolster their squad as they again hope to challenge for the Scudetto as well as try their luck in the Champions League, a competition they haven't won since 2007.

Versatile defender Alessandro Florenzi has been on their radar for a while, and now everything looks set to come together. According to reports in Italy, the 30-year-old, who once was one of the captains at Roma before moving on to PSG, has already completed his medical tests and will join up with his new teammates to begin training.

Florenzi can play in a variety of positions, including midfield and as a winger. Interestingly, he's still officially a Roma player, but hasn't featured at the Stadio Olimpico for the past few years after going out on loan to Spanish outfit Valencia, followed by PSG, and now, Milan.

The Rossoneri have secured a one year loan deal with an option to buy him outright if they're satisfied with their investment.

Milan will be in action later today as they take on Sampdoria to wrap up matchday one of the 2021/22 Serie A season.
